Do you need career advice for students? When it comes to your career, sometimes you feel like you need all the advice you can get. I’m still in college and haven’t reached this high paying job yet, but I can still take advice and here is the advice I gave myself.

15 career tips for students

As you prepare for professional success, here is some career advice for Millennials that has helped me so far.

1. Life is not a race

live stingy

Due to the deadlines and the immense pressure from bosses, professors and mentors, everyone is rushing to get things done.

Nobody takes the time to consider that not everyone is ready or able to graduate at the same rate and therefore not entering the field at the “right time”.

There is no “right time”.

Everyone works differently. Inhale and keep pushing for what you want. You will get there sometime.

2. Set goals and stick to them

Set goals and stick to them.

Start small and reward yourself for small wins.

No goal is too small.

Work your way towards bigger goals slowly and at your own pace.

You can do it. I promise it.

3. Cut toxic people out of your life professionally and personally

Cut toxic people out of your life, both professionally and personally.

This can be difficult, especially on a professional level.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your career is moving away from a toxic work environment.

The same applies to personal toxicity.

I was in an abusive relationship and trying to get out of this household situation was one of the biggest challenges I faced.

Now that I’m harmless, I can focus on my career and educational goals in a much healthier way.

4. Take breaks

Take breaks. Don’t overwork, especially if you are a college student entrepreneur.

Life is not just about paying bills. While that is important, you are more important.

Your health is more important. Take breaks and let yourself breathe.

5. Make at least one friend at work

Make at least one friend at work.

It can be tricky depending on where you work.

Sometimes the friends come unexpectedly.

Sometimes they are rare and far apart.

Whatever you do, just be kind and try.

It will make your work day brighter and more fulfilling when you get to do the work you love with someone you care about.

6. Make at least one friend with your client (if applicable)

Long-term investment strategies

Make at least one friend with your client (if applicable).

I cannot stress enough how much this has changed my life.

I currently work in a grocery store and coffee shop and have made lifelong friends in both places.

It is so encouraging to see their faces every week and to be able to serve them well.

They will appreciate everything you do behind the scenes as well as what you do to encourage them in their personal life.

7. Get to know your boss

Get to know your boss.

They’re not all scary.

If you can, just have a chat about their likes and dislikes, and how you can help them run the business smoothly.

This can be applied to any job, including the little ones.

You don’t have to be friends with your boss, but you know that they are human and that they need a connection too.

Even when it’s time to ask for a raise, they’re on your good side.

8. Sleep

Sleep.

Not just for a couple of hours a night.

Be nice to yourself and take care that you can sleep all night.

It takes so much time to work and our sleep schedules get messed up and shortened, and we end up overworking ourselves.

It’s okay to step away from the computer to get some extra sleep.

You will be more productive the next day if you are well rested.

9. Find three good things about your day

Find three good things about your day.

Be precise.

Everyone has bad days, but there are always good ones in them.

Focus on these three things as you relax for the day.

Challenge yourself to pick these three events / feelings / etc. and be grateful for them.

Meditate on them.

Make tomorrow an even better day.

10. It’s okay to have bad days

It doesn’t sound intuitive about my last point, but not every day can be 100% good.

Allow yourself to be sad that you are not having a good day, but don’t let this become your life.

The bad days will pass and the good days will pass, and they cannot exist without each other.

You can do it.

If you are sick, stay home.

Nobody should have to work when they are sick.

Sometimes we have to, I know, but when you are sick the most important thing is to get better.

Also, you don’t want to make your workplace and / or your customers sick. It is not worth.

14. You are more than your paycheck

get out of debt

The best money tip for college students is that you are more than your paycheck.

You are valid and have feelings that are valid and worthy and friends who love you, and you have wonderful lives to live outside the walls of your career.

Enjoy this life.

The numbers on your bank account do not define who you are as a person.

Only you can define who you are.

Don’t forget this or you won’t survive college.

15. Find something you enjoy doing and do it

This is the ultimate life, isn’t it?

Find what you love Do it. To repeat.

The last word

This advice is not the be-all and end-all of life.

These are things I tell myself every day that I keep using to work towards my goals and aspirations.

I hope they can help you as much as they can help me. Stay encouraged. Keep growing. Stay passionate and motivated and do what you love.

Life is wonderful. Enjoy it.
