Getting paid for something you planned to do anyway might sound like a dream, but that just means it’s time for some sleepwalking.
Yes, there are a number of smartphone apps that can really make money running. It might not be a lot of money, but any number above zero is a pleasant surprise. So if you’re looking for ways to make money online – or shed a few pounds, or maybe a little bit of both – consider an app that pays you to walk.
If fitness is your motivation, you’ll find it easy to get paid to walk – there are plenty of walking money apps out there that are designed to do just that.
StepBet pays you directly and not in the form of prizes, gift cards or points that cannot be redeemed for cash. The game is in the name: you wager money and, if you achieve your personal step goals, share the pot with other winners.
StepBet typically has $ 40 bets and most games last six weeks. You must complete your goal each of these weeks to be eligible.
Every challenge has a “no-lose guarantee” so you never lose money when you reach your goal. Even if a lot of people win a particular challenge, StepBet forfeits its share of the pot to ensure that the winners get at least what they wagered back.
So you understand right from the start that if you take the steps that are based on your fitness level, you don’t get something for free, but also have nothing to lose.
The app is available for Android and Apple phones and is compatible with Fitbit, Google Fit, Garmin trackers, Apple Watch Android S Health and Apple Health. (That means your phone can track your steps or you can use a compatible portable device if you have one.)
2. myWalgreens health goals
If you don’t like the idea of spending money to make money, there are other “paid to walk” apps out there – they just tend to have reservations or smaller payouts.
One of them is myWalgreens Health Goals (formerly the Walgreens Balance Rewards for Healthy Choices program), which rewards you with Walgreens cash rewards for physical activity and lifestyle challenges like walking.
You can earn $ 1 a month in Walgreens Cash Rewards by completing Weekly Challenges, with a bonus of up to $ 2 more in Walgreens Cash Rewards if you complete them all each month.
Here’s another fitness-based “Get Money Running” app if you don’t want to bet or shop at Walgreens: LifeCoin.
This app for Android and Apple devices records your steps with GPS (i.e. only counting outdoor activities) and rewards you with points.
You can ultimately convert these points into rewards that include phones, drones, and gift cards for stores like Amazon or iTunes. But if you’ve ever studied how to make money online, you know that you need to be patient: these rewards require many months of regular walking.
LifeCoin is a product from Azumio, a company that develops health AI and tracking apps.
If fitness isn’t your primary goal, don’t worry: you can still make money by walking. One option is Rover, an app that pays you to walk other people’s dogs.
You can use the app to connect with people in your neighborhood looking for hikers to rent and plan walks. The app also handles payments.
All dog walkers go through a background screening process and select the types of dogs they want to groom before they are listed on the app. Rover says you can make up to $ 1,000 a month, though that number is also based on other services the app offers, including pet reception and home care.
Another app for animal lovers that gets paid to walk is Wag!
Much like Rover, it’s a service that allows people across the country (in 4,600 cities and more) to make money by walking and getting on pets. It does background checks on applicants; the application costs $ 29.95.
A 30-minute walk is usually $ 17 to $ 27 plus tips, wag! says, and “some of the strollers on our platform make a full-time income walking dogs!” You can see the payout before you take the job.
Here’s another app that pays you to walk and do simple tasks: Gigwalk.
The gigwalk is less about climbing the steps and kilometers, but more about being in the right place at the right time. It could combine well with other apps on the list, especially if you’d rather walk around town than natural areas.
Gigwalk describes itself as a “Brand Intelligence” platform and relies on a network of “Gigwalkers” who use their app to report, among other things, how products are stored and presented. It’s similar to polling for money, but it’s done through the app.
They use the app for Android and Apple devices to find and accept local gigs that pay anywhere “from $ 3 to $ 100 or more”. You will be paid through PayPal.
