    Desperate restaurant chains looking to hire thousands of employees are offering higher wages, signing bonuses, and referral bonuses.

    McDonald’s announced that it will increase the pay of existing and new employees in company-owned stores to $ 11-17 per hour for entry-level positions and $ 15-20 per hour for shift supervisors. It wants to hire 10,000 people.

    The need for staff is so great that a McDonald’s franchisee in Tampa, Florida offered $ 50 to everyone who comes for an interview. Several Minnesota subway stores are offering a $ 1,000 signing bonus to managers who successfully complete their 90-day training program. The sandwich chain has to employ 40,000 people.

    According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median wage for food and beverage servers in restaurants, including fast food, was $ 11.63 an hour in 2020.     McDonald’s plans to hire 10,000 people in its company-owned stores over the next three months as dining rooms reopen and business picks up again in the summer. The company has just announced that it will increase hourly wages for all existing employees and new hires. It may not prescribe the same thing for franchises, who make up 95% of the business, but it does encourage them to raise their wages as well, the company president said in a letter to employees.
