As a locally hosted desktop accounting software, AccountEdge has a one-time cost to your business – rather than the monthly subscription costs that cloud accounting software typically entails.

    AccountEdge Basic

    AccountEdge Basic is a desktop accounting software option that provides general ledger accounting features, bank synchronization, sales tracking, and credit card payment.

    AccountEdge Basic has a one-time charge of $ 149 for new users or $ 99 to upgrade your software from a previous version of AccountEdge.

    AccountEdge Pro

    AccountEdge Pro is also a desktop accounting software, but unlike AccountEdge Basic, AccountEdge Pro offers some cloud collaboration features.

    QuickBooks is generally the industry leading accounting software solution, so it may be better to go with this market leader as opposed to AccountEdge. You will likely get more services and support.

    QuickBooks Desktop accounting software is a locally hosted option, which means your company’s books are far from the cloud. You cannot access your account from any device like you would with cloud-based accounting software. However, QuickBooks Desktop has some fairly powerful accounting features that make this option particularly suitable for inventory-based businesses.

    QuickBooks Desktop is available in three versions – QuickBooks Pro, QuickBooks Premier, and QuickBooks Enterprise – at one-time costs of $ 299.95, $ 499.95, and $ 1,155, respectively.

    QuickBooks Online

    Alternatively, if you want to access your accounting data from any device with an internet connection, you need to opt for cloud-based accounting software. Unlike AccountEdge and QuickBooks Desktop QuickBooks Online is always hosted in the cloud – and you don’t have to pay extra for cloud collaboration.

    QuickBooks Online is also available in three versions, all of which are offered on a monthly subscription basis. Simple Start is the simplest version and costs just $ 20.
