For full information on the new Costa Club program, see the outlet’s terms and conditions. Note that there are a few exceptions – for example, you cannot earn beans when buying drinks with a gift card or coupon.
What the redesign means for existing Costa Coffee Club customers
As of September 29, existing members of the Costa Coffee Club loyalty program will automatically switch to the coffee shop’s new Costa Club program. You will be notified in advance of the changeover, but you cannot refuse the transfer and stick with the old scheme.
You will receive one bean for every 40 unused points earned on or after September 29th. Any points below 40 are rounded up to 40 to give you a bean. Under the current membership scheme, 40 points is worth 40 pence. So you need 330 points to get a free medium latte. However, when those points are converted into beans, it only takes 320 points to get eight beans and the same free latte.
The new program should also help you earn freebies faster as you spend less to collect rewards. However, if you spend your points on food at Costa Coffee, you should redeem your points before the changeover on September 29th, as you cannot redeem “beans” for food, only for drinks.
You can continue to use the same loyalty card to collect rewards from September 29th, but if you prefer you can apply for a new card for free at any Costa Coffee shop or online at Costa Coffee. Those who use the existing Costa Coffee app to earn digital rewards can continue to use it after the new program has started.
