As Florida COVID-19 cases increase, Informa Connect has postponed its upcoming Inside ETFs and WealthStack conferences, which were scheduled to take place September 27-29 at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida.
Hollywood is located in Broward County, where the death toll related to COVID-19 is increasing. Overall, Florida currently has more hospital admissions and coronavirus-related deaths than any other state.
“While we have the opportunity to advance Inside ETFs and WealthStack, we don’t believe hosting a large-scale event in Florida later this month is in the best interests of our attendees, speakers, sponsors – and our team,” said Mark Bruno, Managing Director Director Wealth Management at Informa Connect.
The events will take place in 2022. Further details will be announced in the coming days, once the specific dates and the venue have been determined.
Bruno added that in the past five to ten days, several speakers have been canceled due to safety concerns or travel restrictions and that concerns from attendees, sponsors, and event staff, especially attendees with younger children who are not yet enrolled, have been raised about COVID- 19 have grown able to be vaccinated.
“It had nothing to do with the quality of the program or the finances; This was about timing and location, ”said Bruno. “We had the registrants; we had the speakers we wanted; we had the sponsors; We just didn’t have the right time or the right place. “
About 800 people registered for the September event, and the company had some high profile speakers including former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and his father, former New Orleans Saints and Houston Oilers quarterback Archie Manning. Other speakers included Shirl Penney, CEO of Dynasty; Dave Welling, CEO of Mercer Advisors; Joe Duran, co-head of Goldman Sachs Personal Financial Management; Dani Fava, Head of Strategic Development at Envestnet; and Ben Johnson, Director of Global ETF Research at Morningstar.
“We felt that this was the responsible decision,” said Bruno.
The Wealth Management Industry Awards, scheduled for September 9, and the FinovateFall Conference, scheduled for September 13-15, both in New York City, will be driven forward with face-to-face events as planned.
Several companies and industry groups have canceled or postponed their autumn events in the past few weeks. The organizers of the popular T3 Advisor technology conference recently announced that the 2021 meeting would be postponed to an unspecified date in the spring of 2022 in Denton, Texas. Due to the spread of the delta variant, the Financial Planning Association canceled its planned face-to-face conference last week. The event was originally scheduled for September 22-24 in Columbus, Ohio. Potomac fund management postponed its advisory conference in 2021, originally planned for September through 2022.
On Wednesday, Snappy Kraken announced its decision to use the JOLT! Conference originally scheduled for March 20-22 October to 4-6. May 2022 in Las Vegas was planned.
