    Successful investing requires more than a checklist. For Bryant Malloy, the financial advisory begins by connecting with Elevations members.

    “I want to listen, learn, and come up with a plan that suits them because there is a solution for everyone,” he explains. “It’s important to have someone as a sounding board, even when it comes to simple things. Do I finance a car? Or do I pay for it with cash? Is it better to use this money as an investment or as part of my retirement plan? These kinds of things are the qualitative aspects that I enjoy about my job. “

    Bryant often refers to himself as a coach or mentor who helps people get where they want to be in their financial lives. He works with members on everything from planning tuition fees for future children to preparing funds for a down payment on a mortgage to saving for retirement, improving creditworthiness, and evaluating 401 (k) s during a career transition . He explains to members who are passionate about socially responsible investing who want to invest their dollars in companies that are based on their ethics and values.

    “I enjoy having conversations with people and giving them peace of mind about these big, daunting, scary things – or at least working out a plan. That’s what really drives me. And that’s why I get out of bed in the morning, ”he adds.

    Bryant joined CFS * Wealth Management Advisors at Elevations in January 2016. He previously worked in the banking department of the credit union. Prior to joining Elevations, Bryant had been involved in investing and lending since 2009.

    Financial planning benefits all age groups

    All members are eligible to meet with a financial advisor through CUSO Financial Services, LP, at Elevations Credit Union. There are no minimum asset requirements or age restrictions to use this service.

    Bryant works with members of all ages, but often visits recent college graduates and young families just starting out with investments and goal setting for big purchases like a home.

    “These customers are given a lot of education to help them understand the financial world they are in right now. That’s a big part of what I do – offering education to help people, ”he explains.

    He also works with longtime investors who are about to retire and need to learn how to handle the funds they have saved. Bryant likes to guide these people through tax liability and distribution options to help them live comfortable lives after they finish their full-time careers.

    “I like giving people a foundation to really empower them when they look at their retirement plan. It’s such a daunting thing. If we can simplify it, educate them and make them feel confident about their finances, it is important to make them feel comfortable and secure in their activities, ”he adds.

    Bryant says the culture at Elevations suits him well. The way the company prioritizes member needs and works hard to ensure employee satisfaction, including promoting a healthy work-life balance, is important to him.

    Tips on Choosing a Consultant

    It’s important that members develop a relationship with their financial advisor, explains Bryant. First, they may click based on shared hobbies or interests, but ultimately the relationship must be built on trust and the ability to speak openly about income, debt, and finances.

    He says he will choose “someone who you are comfortable with and who you can talk to. We don’t talk about finances every time, we just talk about someone you trust – I think that’s the main component. “

    He also notes that it is important that your personalities click, as this relationship is likely to last for many years as you work through important decisions and financial milestones in your life. If you are planning your finances in your twenties or thirties, you may still be working with your advisor as you prepare for retirement in your early sixties.

    “I think the most important aspect of financial planning is the relationship between the customer and the planner. I always strive to be someone who is reliable and there for my customers, ”added Bryant.

    A breath of fresh air

    In his spare time, Bryant and his wife enjoy taking their two Humane Society of Boulder Valley rescue dogs on outdoor adventures. Camping trips are high on their list. His wife is an avid trail runner and ultra-marathon runner who effortlessly navigates the Colorado trails while Bryant tries to keep up on his bike.

    The two are also new homeowners. They spent much of the COVID-19 pandemic tackling home improvement projects, including the tedious chores, painting kitchen cabinets and the master bedroom. This summer, they’ll spend more time outdoors – likely in a vegetable garden.
