If you don’t qualify for this particular program, be sure to check out our Guide to Cheap Broadband to see what other help from telecommunications providers is available and how to find the best deal for your needs. If you’re struggling, it may also be worth doing a 10-minute performance review to make sure you aren’t missing out on any help you are entitled to.
You get fiber broadband as part of the program – but there are no extras such as calls or television in the package
Eligible recipients receive TalkTalk’s standard fiber optic package with an average download speed of 38 Mbps, which is fast enough for most online activities, although this package does not include optional extras like watching TV or calling. Even if you find a job within the six months, you can continue to use the free broadband until it expires.
There is also no contract. So if you want to cancel within the six months, you can do so free of charge.
If you keep the service for the full six months, the broadband connection will automatically be terminated free of charge after this period has expired – unless you switch to another TalkTalk package or apply for a switch to another TalkTalk package. TalkTalk says you can take advantage of the standard broadband package, which is currently £ 23 / month over 18 months. However, first compare prices using our Broadband Unbundled tool.
You have to apply for free broadband through your job center
To apply for six months of free broadband under TalkTalk and the new Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) program now available across the UK after a successful trial in Greater Manchester and Cheshire last year:
- If you are unemployed, ask your Jobcenter Plus work coach whether you can apply. TalkTalk has informed us that it is up to Jobcentre Plus employees to decide on the eligibility on a case-by-case basis. But if you’re unemployed – especially if you don’t currently have broadband at home – you might be eligible.
- If you are authorized, you will receive a referral code that you can pass on to TalkTalk. You should redeem this code using a special TalkTalk telephone number given to you by the Jobcentre Plus staff. Applying this way allows you to bypass the usual credit check to purchase the product so it shouldn’t have a negative impact on your credit score. For more information on how these work, check out our creditworthiness guide. There is no limit to the number of voucher recommendation codes available and there is no end date by which you must apply.
