The new service called “Whoosh” was tested for the first time in May of this year in an express store in Wolverhampton. But it has now expanded to 96 express and metro branches across England and Wales. Tesco expects to have rolled out the program in a total of 100 stores by the end of the year. Below we explain how it works.

Read our guide to grocery shopping tips to learn more about how to cut your grocery bills. You may also want to start thinking about booking your Christmas supermarket delivery times now, as spaces are still available at Asda, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.

    This is how whoosh works

Buyers can place a “whoosh” delivery order either online with Tesco or via the app, with goods being delivered by bike, moped or car. Technically, there is no item limit on the amount you can order, but the reality is that it takes the weight and size of the item into account and Tesco says that when you check out it will let you know if there is anything you need to remove. Orders once placed can no longer be changed or canceled due to the tight turnaround.

The service costs £ 5 for all orders over £ 15 and £ 7 for orders under £ 15. You can collect Clubcard points for your order and are also entitled to Clubcard discounts or promotions. You can also pay for your order with your Clubcard vouchers.

Tesco says it will text you or call you if delivery is delayed. However, you should contact the supermarket customer service department if you are not satisfied with a delivery or if items are missing. If something is damaged, you must return it to a Tesco store with proof of delivery.

However, you can save by using Tesco’s standard delivery service instead, which costs anywhere from £ 2 to £ 7 per order, depending on where you live and the time and day of delivery. Alternatively, you can pay £ 7.99 / month for Tesco’s delivery savings pass, which entitles you to one free standard delivery per day as long as you spend more than € 40 (you cannot use the delivery savings pass for whoosh deliveries).

    So compare other supermarkets

Asda and Sainsbury’s also offer an hour delivery service. Asda’s is £ 8.50 with no minimum spend, while Sainsbury’s is £ 4.99 cheaper with a £ 15 minimum delivery.

Morrisons does not have its own hour-long delivery service.
