What is Shop Pay and how is it used?

Shop Pay is a payment service provider that enables customers to save their email address, credit card, and shipping and billing information so that checkouts on a company’s website are faster.

    What is shop pay?

Part of Shopify, Shop Pay is an online checkout system that small businesses can use to help customers pay faster by automatically remembering and using their contact and payment information.

When customers pay your business for products or services online, they typically need to provide email addresses, shipping and billing information, and credit card information in order to checkout. Shop Pay speeds this process by helping small business websites get customer information. Customers can use their saved information for a quick checkout instead of having to re-enter it or re-verify.

    How does ShopPay work?

A small business can enable and disable Shop Pay through the settings in their Shopify account. Small businesses can use Shop Pay if they use third-party payment providers, and it’s also available to merchants who sell on Facebook or Google even if they aren’t using Shopify.

    • When customers check out, they are directed to the order summary page. After the purchase has been authorized, you will receive a six-digit code in the form of a text that you enter on the checkout page. After entering the code, the order is processed.

    • If customers shop again with the same device, they can use their saved information without having to verify again.

    • Customers can change their Shop Pay account information and unsubscribe from Shop Pay at any time.

    • Shop Pay allows customers to choose pick-up or delivery options if a company offers these services, and customers can also choose an installment plan if the company is using Shop Pay installments (however, note that Shop Pay installments do not accept Capital One cards) .

Shop Pay supports 20 languages: Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Malay, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.

    • Shopify Payments is an integrated payment service that small businesses can use to accept payments after receiving a Shopify subscription.

    • Businesses using Shopify Payments don’t need to set up a third-party provider to process online or in-person payments.

    • Shop Pay relies on Shopify or third party vendors to process transactions. These providers usually charge fees and have rules about what you can sell with their service. In the case of credit card transactions, the issuer, the acquirer and the credit card company each charge a small fee for using their services.

    Who uses ShopPay?

Shop Pay is best for business owners who do most or all of their business online, as most of its unique features – like quick checkout and storing customer payment details – are primarily relevant to online sales.

Even if your business model benefits particularly from customers who make frequent repeat purchases, Shop Pay could make these purchases easier and faster for them, which could strengthen customer loyalty and reduce the number of abandoned carts.

    Is ShopPay safe to use?

Once activated, Shop Pay stores the customer’s shipping and billing information on Shopify’s PCI-compatible servers and is only passed on to your shop when an order is placed. This can reduce some compliance risk for small businesses.

Compliance with payment card industry or PCI is a group of card transaction security protocols and practices developed by American Express, Discover, JCB International, Mastercard, and Visa. These standards apply to digital and physical practices and records.
